15 Most Common Demons We Encounter During Deliverance, Their Roles, and Spiritual Open Doors

Throughout Scripture, Jesus repeatedly confronted demonic spirits that oppressed, tormented, deceived, afflicted, and bound people. Deliverance ministry today often speaks about recurring spiritual patterns connected to fear, lust, pride, witchcraft, bitterness, infirmity, addiction, and spiritual oppression.

Many deliverance ministers believe demons operate in categories and functions. Some attack the mind, some attack the body, some attack relationships, and others seek to destroy destinies, marriages, ministries, and entire bloodlines.

Deliverance minister, Don Dickerman and author of the book When Pigs Move In, has recorded the names of over 25,000 demons.

Understanding Spiritual Open Doors

Many deliverance ministers, and we here at Deliverance360, teach that demons gain “legal rights” or access through:

  • trauma,
  • abuse,
  • occult involvement,
  • witchcraft,
  • pornography,
  • sexual immorality,
  • unforgiveness,
  • bitterness,
  • greed,
  • idolatry,
  • blood covenants,
  • generational sin,
  • Freemasonry,
  • New Age practices,
  • and rebellion against God.

Demons often enter through painful experiences, repeated sin, or ancestral covenants.

At the same time, believers are encouraged to walk in discernment, humility, prayer, consecration, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit.

1. Apollyon (Abaddon) — Fear and Anxiety

Apollyon, called Abaddon in Hebrew, appears in Revelation 9:11 as the angel of the bottomless pit.

Deliverance ministers commonly associate this spirit with:

  • fear,
  • anxiety,
  • panic,
  • torment,
  • insecurity,
  • phobias,
  • shyness,
  • and chronic dread.

Fear itself is viewed as spiritual in nature.

Open doors may include:

  • childhood trauma,
  • abuse,
  • bullying,
  • abandonment,
  • violence in the home,
  • accidents,
  • or frightening experiences.

2 Timothy 1:7 says:

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

Excessive shyness and lack of confidence are also often connected to fear-based oppression.

2. Asmodeus — Lust, Sexual Bondage, and Perversion

Asmodeus is associated with:

  • lust,
  • masturbation,
  • pornography,
  • adultery,
  • sexual addiction,
  • incubus and succubus attacks,
  • and sexual immorality.

The Book of Tobit describes Asmodeus tormenting Sarah by killing seven husbands before their marriages could be consummated.

Open doors may include:

  • pornography,
  • fornication,
  • sexual abuse,
  • adultery,
  • trauma,
  • occult sexual practices,
  • and generational sin.

This spirit is also connected to repeated relationship destruction and sexual torment.

3. Leviathan — Pride, Confusion, and Spiritual Oppression

Leviathan is described in Job 41 as a twisting serpent or dragon-like creature.

Deliverance ministers often associate Leviathan with:

  • pride,
  • confusion,
  • migraines,
  • memory loss,
  • stubbornness,
  • spinal problems,
  • neck pain,
  • mental fog,
  • and spiritual blindness.

Leviathan is often described as a spirit that “wraps” around people spiritually, bringing pressure, rigidity, and torment.

Many ministers believe Leviathan works closely with Jezebel.

4. Jezebel — Witchcraft, Manipulation, and Seduction

The Jezebel spirit is commonly associated with:

  • manipulation,
  • domination,
  • seduction,
  • false prophecy,
  • control,
  • church division,

Jezebel is often viewed as a spirit that attacks churches, prophets, pastors, and worship.

Deliverance ministers believe Jezebel:

  • targets leadership,
  • corrupts ministries,
  • seduces spiritually,

This spirit is associated with:

  • passivity,

  • weakness,
  • fear of confrontation,
  • emotional dependency,
  • and surrendering spiritual authority.

Deliverance ministers believe Ahab spirits often allow Jezebel spirits to dominate homes, marriages, and churches.

7. Baal — Idolatry, Blood Covenants, and Infirmity

Baal worship in the Old Testament involved idolatry and child sacrifice.

Deliverance teachings associate Baal with:

  • infertility,
  • miscarriage,
  • addiction,
  • anxiety,
  • chronic sickness,
  • fatigue,
  • and bloodline bondage.

Idolatry, greed, blood sacrifice, and ancestral covenants are believed to open spiritual doors across generations.

Open doors may include:

  • occult worship,
  • sacrifices,
  • Freemasonry,
  • witchcraft,
  • greed,
  • and ancestral rituals.

8. Beelzebub (Belial) — Envy, Anger, and Corruption

This spirit is associated with:

  • envy,
  • jealousy,
  • bitterness,
  • anger,
  • division,
  • corruption,
  • and gluttony.

Envy is often described as a destructive force that damages families, ministries, marriages, and organizations.

Jealousy and envy are believed to be major tools Satan uses to divide people and destroy destinies.

9. Legion — Mental Torment and Self-Destruction

Legion is one of the most recognized demonic names in Scripture.

“My name is Legion: for we are many.”

Legion is associated with:

  • severe torment,
  • self-harm,
  • suicidal thoughts,
  • depression,
  • insanity,
  • mental confusion,
  • voices,
  • and violent manifestations.

Legion is often described as a “strong man” spirit that attacks the mind and overwhelms the individual.

10. Molech — Abortion and Child Sacrifice

Molech was connected in the Old Testament with sacrificing children.

Deliverance ministers believe Molech gains legal rights through:

  • abortion,
  • bloodshed,
  • murder,
  • and sacrifice of innocent life.

Abortion is often associated with spiritual consequences connected to the shedding of innocent blood.

Leviticus 18:21 condemns sacrificing children to Molech.

  • lupus,

14. Baphomet — Sexual Confusion and Identity Distortion

Baphomet is associated in deliverance teachings with:

  • gender confusion,
  • identity distortion,
  • homosexuality,
  • and sexual inversion.

Trauma, rejection, sexual abuse, and parental influence are often believed to contribute to spiritual confusion regarding identity.

15. Jabulon — Freemasonry and Secret Covenants

Jabulon is associated with:

  • Freemasonry,
  • Eastern Star,
  • secret societies,
  • occult vows,
  • and generational covenants.

Deliverance ministers believe these practices may create spiritual consequences within family bloodlines.

Consecration and Spiritual Protection

Consecration is frequently presented as spiritual protection. Deliverance ministers must consecrate themselves, remain in a place of intimacy with God to build a hedge of protection

Consecration is a big word, but we need to do about four simple things to be consecrated:

  • Avoid idolatry.
  • Avoid sexual immorality.
  • Avoid unforgiveness.
  • Avoid greed.
  • These four areas are believed to cover many of the major spiritual openings that lead to bondage and torment.

    Believers are also encouraged toward:

    • humility,
    • prayer,
    • fasting,
    • obedience to God,
    • discernment,
    • and reliance upon the Holy Spirit.

A Final Word on Discernment and Balance

It is important to approach demons, spiritual warfare, and deliverance with wisdom and balance.

Not every mental, emotional, relational, or physical struggle is caused by demons. Medical, emotional, psychological, neurological, and environmental causes are real and should never be ignored.

At the same time, many Christians believe spiritual oppression is also real and that Jesus Christ still heals, restores, and delivers people today.

    Ephesians 6:12 says:

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers…”

    Luke 10:19 says:

“Behold, I give unto you power… over all the power of the enemy.”

True biblical ministry should always point people toward:

    • repentance,
    • holiness,
    • forgiveness,
    • wisdom,
    • humility,
    • discernment,
    • healing,
    • and a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
