Deliverance Ministry in Dominica

The Caribbean is riddled with witchcraft. Dominica, Jamaica, Grenada are replete with witchcraft. For generations, the beautiful island of Dominica has been known as the "Nature Isle of the Caribbean." Its lush mountains, rivers, and rich culture reflect the beauty of God's creation. Yet beneath that beauty, many Dominicans have also grown up surrounded by stories of witchcraft, Obeah, Santeria, folk healing, curses, and spiritual practices that have been passed down through generations. From Roseau to Portsmouth, to Marigot, to GrandBay - Obeah is not uncommon.

Many people silently struggle with fear, unexplained sickness, recurring setbacks, broken relationships, financial hardship, depression, and spiritual oppression. They often ask themselves, "Why does it seem like nothing ever works out for me?"

The good news is that God wants to bless you—not curse you. Jesus Christ came to bring freedom, healing, restoration, and abundant life.

Witchcraft and Obeah in Dominica

Dominica has a long history of beliefs surrounding Obeah, folk healing, Santería, and other spiritual practices that predate Christianity. These traditions developed through a mixture of African religious customs, Kalinago (Carib) traditions, and European influences during the colonial period.

It is important to distinguish between historical cultural traditions and biblical Christianity. While many stories surrounding witchcraft and secret societies come from oral tradition rather than documented history, belief in spiritual powers remains deeply rooted in many Caribbean communities.

The practice most commonly associated with witchcraft in Dominica is Obeah.

Historically, Obeah developed among enslaved Africans during the colonial era. It combined elements of West African spiritual traditions, herbal medicine, local folklore, and, over time, certain Christian symbols and terminology. While some practitioners promoted healing through herbs, others became known for practices involving curses, charms, divination, spells, and attempts to communicate with spiritual beings.

The Spiritual Cost of Witchcraft

Throughout our years of deliverance ministry, we have ministered to many individuals who believe they have been affected by occult practices or who have personally participated in them before coming to Christ.

Whether through fear, curiosity, family tradition, or desperation, involvement with witchcraft often leaves people spiritually burdened.

Many individuals seeking deliverance describe struggles such as:

  • recurring financial setbacks,
  • chronic illness with no clear explanation,
  • persistent fear and anxiety,
  • spiritual oppression,
  • repeated delays,
  • broken relationships,
  • nightmares,
  • tormenting thoughts,
  • and a constant feeling that something is preventing them from moving forward.

Not every hardship is caused by witchcraft, but Scripture clearly warns believers not to seek supernatural power apart from God.

The Root of Witchcraft

The Bible teaches that witchcraft is ultimately a form of idolatry because it seeks supernatural guidance, power, or protection apart from the Lord.

In 1 Samuel 15:23, Scripture says:

"For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft..."

King Saul eventually rejected God's guidance and sought supernatural direction through a medium at Endor (1 Samuel 28). Instead of trusting the Lord, he turned to forbidden spiritual practices.

The Bible consistently warns God's people against divination, sorcery, spiritism, and occult practices because they lead people away from dependence upon God.

Jesus Himself declared:

"I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved." (John 10:9)

He also warned that:

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." (John 10:10)

When people seek spiritual answers through any door other than Jesus Christ, they expose themselves to deception rather than God's blessing.

Jesus Came to Set the Captives Free

The ministry of Jesus was characterized by preaching the Gospel, healing the sick, restoring broken lives, and setting captives free.

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus delivered people from spiritual oppression and demonstrated His authority over the kingdom of darkness.

He later gave that authority to His followers.

In Mark 16:17, Jesus said:

"And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons..."

And in Luke 10:19, He declared:

"Behold, I have given you authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

Deliverance ministry is not about fear. It is about helping people experience the freedom that Jesus purchased through His death and resurrection.

God Wants to Bless You

Many people have accepted defeat as though it were their destiny.

But God's desire is to bless His children.

He wants to replace fear with peace.

He wants to replace bondage with freedom.

He wants to replace shame with hope.

He wants to replace despair with purpose.

No matter what has happened in your past, no matter what spiritual practices you or your family may have been involved in, Jesus Christ is able to forgive, restore, heal, and set you free.
